Northeast Community Credit Union Partners with The Shepherd’s Inn

Northeast Community Credit Union’s President / CEO, Kathy Campbell presents a check to Paul Gabinet, Executive Director of the Shepherd’s Inn (Safe House/Emergency Shelter for women and their children displaced by domestic violence or otherwise temporary homeless) and Jerome Cochran, Member of the Board of Directors of the Shepherd’s Inn. The gift is part of a sponsorship for the upcoming Annual Spring Lunch Inn fundraiser for the shelter.

Northeast Community Credit Union, Farm Bureau of Tennessee, Pepsi, Sysco, WBEJ, First Baptist Church, Big John’s Closeouts, and the Elizabethton Star are among the sponsors for the 10th Annual Spring Lunch Inn on Friday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. “Businesses and individuals can make reservations for the grilled chicken lunch…drive through at the Farm Bureau in Elizabethton and ‘Pick Up’ their employee lunches without leaving their car…” says Michael Hawkins, Board President of The Shepherd’s Inn. “This is a wonderful lunch and a great way to support the work of the shelter. We have to provide many fundraisers for the shelter. We receive no STATE, or FEDERAL funding. All of the operational support comes from our churches, businesses, other friends, and fundraisers like the LUNCH INN.” Says Hawkins.

Chef Eric Hoglund, Past President of the Mountain Empire Culinary Association, says, “We’re always thrilled to work with The Shepherd’s Inn. We helped provide the first fundraising event nearly 17 years ago for the shelter. We had a ball. The chefs from around the Tri Cities and Southwest Virginia were thrilled to help Paul (the Director) and the Board get this wonderful program started. We’ve helped throughout the year with the Christmas Dinners, and the Lunch Inn’s which is also an annual events we support.” Hoglund continues. Chef Eric will be preparing grilled chicken quarters, baked beans, pasta salad, the drink and cake will be available also from the shelter’s board. All of this for $6.00! “I know the community will want to support this wonderful women’s shelter and put in a couple extra bucks for the shelter’s work.” Says, Chef Eric.

On May 27th, 1997, The Shepherd’s Inn opened the doors and has been providing emergency shelter and a safe house for women and children of Carter County and Elizabethton vicinity. Nearly 1,500 have received emergency services and the Inn has expanded the community assistance throughout the years.

“We are in great need of funding,” states Paul Gabinet, Executive Director. “The board and community friends like these wonderful sponsors are coming to the rescue. The shelter must do frequent fundraising events to keep our program working. We hope all of our businesses will reserve lunch, come and eat with us and enjoy the music/Karaoke by Micheal Hawkins. We are greatly appreciative of our friends of the Farm Bureau for hosting us again this year. It is a wonderfully convenient location for our Lunch Inn,” stated Gabinet.
