Amanda Banner, Spanish teacher at Hampton High School, is the latest Northeast Community Credit
Union Helping Teacher’s Teach grant winner.
Banner plans to use the Helping Teachers Teach grant to purchase a set of Spanish language novels to help promote free voluntary reading, or recreational reading, among her students. The novels are written with Spanish language learners in mind to help them acquire and retain more of the language they are learning.
“This project will help me provide level appropriate, high interest readers for my students and help them to exponentially grow their vocabulary in Spanish,” Banner said. “Evidence from several areas continues to show that those who do more free voluntary reading show better development in reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary.”
Northeast Community Credit Union awards $300 every month to a classroom to be utilized for classroom needs, classroom activities, and academic enrichment.
